A Consultative Workshop on ‘GLOF Risk Management’ with the national stakeholders was held from 20-21 December 2016 in Kathmandu. A total of 12 participants representing Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Ministry of Energy, Department of Electricity Development, Water and Energy Commission Secretariat, Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal and ICIMOD attended the event.
During the workshop, sharing of Imja GLOF risk reduction measures including the installation of hydromet and Early Warning System (EWS) was shared. Discussions were made with stakeholders for building partnership on disaster management, communication and sharing of EWS with hydropower in downstream and sustainability aspects of EWS installed at Imja Lake. Brainstorming on existing policy level opportunities and constraints for integrating Hydropower projects with EWS was also conducted. The workshop was facilitated by Senior Technical Advisor from the project and resource persons from Real Time Solutions.
